Mrs Clark came into room 14 this week to help us act out the Christmas story. There are some wonderful actors in room 14. We were learning about the nativity story as well as working on our key competencies. The Oscar nominations are on the way.

We thought about what a palaeontologist does and wrote a script for us to make a mini interview with one of us pretending to be a palaeontologist and the other being an interviewer.

Term 4 Theme: Survivors
This term we are looking at dinosaurs, especially at how they adapted to their environments. We started off by looking at the features of dinosaurs and then drew our own dinosaurs. Then we got the paints out and started painting them. We had to mix colours too which was exciting (red + white = pink, blue + yellow= green). It was great fun and when they are finished we are going to put them on the wall!

Naomi's advice on how to run
Firstly you look straight ahead. if you don't look ahead you will crash into the people who running beside you.
Secondly you have to bend your arms if you don't bend your arms you will run slow like a big elephant.you should also bend your arms so you could run really fast when use are having a race.
Thirdly when you run you have to run on light feet and bend your arm at the same time so you could run fast like a cheetah .
Hope that helps.

Harvesting harakeke.
Whaea Saf took us down to the creek where there is some beautiful harakeke growing by the stream. She sang a lovely karakia before telling us which strands of harakeke we could cut: Not the baby in the middle, nor its parents on either side, but the grandparents on the outside.
After she'd cut some off, she showed us how to weave a star (which is what we'll be doing next week) and how to make a "clapper" which used to be given to kids to keep them busy while mum weaved.
We carefully collected up the flax that had been cut and took it back to class.
Matariki: Weaving fish from card
We started our Matariki topic by reading the story about the 7 Fish of Matariki and then tried to weave our own fish out of cardboard strips as a practice run for weaving them out of harekeke (flax). It was pretty hard as our hands were a bit too small to for the strips - but we persevered and here are some of the results.

Snakes and Ladders
In line with our theme of the term, this week we've been making our own rainy day game: A Snakes and Ladders board. We coloured the board in, wrote the numbers 1-100 and stuck on 8 snakes and 8 ladders. Some of us worked in pairs and some of us worked by ourselves.

All About Me
Hi, my name's Toby. I am a dad and have three children. I live in Onehunga in a small house with a nice garden. I love watching movies, going for walks and eating homemade pizza. In the holiday I went camping and did some boogie-boarding!
