Fatboy Slim's track had the line "We've come a long, long way together" in it and I think Room 14 have done just that this year. It's been a great year and we've all done so much together and learnt a lot from each other. I'm so happy that we have been on stage a couple of times this year, I'm so happy that we have done so much reading this year and spent a lot of time trying to get better at maths. I'm really happy we have done some art and science and kept trying with Te Reo. Room 14 you rock and may you all continue to do so!!

The Unfinished Bike Track by Jane Manase
Today room 14 went outside to look at our unfinished bike track. While we were walking we saw wriggly worms and roots poking out of the hard dry ground. And we also saw some curves and mud hills. It was like walking in a graveyard and the trees and mud hills were ghost watching us.

Heard It In The Playground
I found a video of a flashy school in London using this poem by Alan Ahlberg. I thought it was crying out to be Pt.England-ised, so we talked as a class about what they say in the playground and I talked to some other teachers about what they hear. So using that, we re-wrote the poem.
It was fun to film but a bit tricky dealing with the Pt.England Reserve wind. I was happy that it gave everyone a chance to participate. I hope enjoy it.

Wednesday Afternoon At The Beach
Room 14 made their way to the top of our Ladder of Kindness and as a reward we spent Wednesday afternoon down at the beach.
This is how we spent the afternoon:
Making sandcastles.
Collecting shells.
Burying Osa Talanoa
Digging.
Looking under shells.
Checking out the rock pools.
Everyone played really well with each other and it was great to see.
If we get to the top of the ladder again, we'll have another trip down there.
Let's hope we get there soon :)

Crayons and Ink
A great idea shared within our team: Draw a cityscape with white crayon on A3 paper. Then colour within building shapes with coloured ink. Then colour in a night sky.
Come in to see the finished product.

Paper Mache Houses: Step 1
We have started work on our paper mache houses for the school's art exhibition. Our team's theme is architecture and I think that the children will love the paper mache process: Making their own glue, slapping on the paper, painting the houses, seeing them on display ...
Step 1 was planning the house. We did this on Explain Everything with the hope of showing these on the kids' blogs and in the exhibition. The budding architects had the choice of drawing their plan on paper as well, which were photo-ed and put onto the EE activity/video.

Afternoon art
This afternoon we did some wet on wet watercolour painting. The class had drawn self portraits earlier in the week and these were going to serve as interesting backgrounds. The kids sat wonderfully as we talked about how to do it and were very engaged in their work as you can see in the photos. They're an arty bunch!

A bad day at the picnic
Our picnic was postponed today because of rain so Rm14 imagined what would have happened if the weather had been fine. This was one of the wonderful stories. Thank you Eva!

I saw this on Youtube done by a master bongo player. I improvised and used the fruit bucket. The kids seemed to enjoy it.
First team assembly of 2016!
This morning we had our first team assembly with everyone from years 3 and 4. We sat beautifully, said a karakia, listened to 2 very well read mihis and sang a waiata. The teachers also introduced themselves. Roll on term 1!
